I am very pleased to welcome you to the University of Medicine, Magway. Ten years have passed from the establishment of this University in 2001. The founding father of the University was Professor Than Myint presided as the first Rector. With the tireless energy and enthusiasm combined with his vision Dr Maung Maung Win, the second Rector had led so many to design the wonderful buildings and campus.

         It is great honor for me to be the Rector of this University at this moment because I know we have some of the very best clinicians and teaching staff in Myanmar today for our students to deliver high class education in Medicine with particular regard to their application in health care.

         Furthermore we aim to create the University that will provide high quality professionals ready to apply their knowledge in every walk of life thus providing the national overall development.

         In addition to production of basic doctors this University has started its postgraduate courses in 2009 to produce postgraduate doctors in various branches of medical specialties.

          Previously we had only three Medical Faculties which were upgraded to independent University level in October, 1964 and called now as University of Medicine 1, Yangon, University of Medicine, Mandalay and University of Medicine 2, Yangon. University of Medicine, Magway is the fourth independent Medical University in Myanmar. Students who gain higher scores in their matriculation examination all over the country except those living in Yangon and Mandalay can apply to our University. Curriculum, qualification of teaching staff and standard of teaching are the same as in all other Medical Universities serving under the same umbrella of Department of Medical Science, Ministry of Health in Myanmar.

         In conclusion I would like to express my sincere thanks to all my administrative and teaching staff for their persistent untiring effort for gaining success of our University.
