History

The Department of Pharmacology at University of Medicine, Magway was founded on 8^th March 2003. The Department was established with the intake of the 5/2003 batch of 3^rd Year MBBS students.     

The Department was initially headed by Professor Dr. Marlar Myint, with two attached Associate Professors: Dr. San San Nwe from University of Medicine 1, Yangon and Dr. Thein May Saw, from University of Medicine 2, Yangon. In July 2003, two more teaching staff members, Dr. Myo Nyein Aung and Dr. Win Thuzar Aye were appointed as demonstrators & two non-teaching staff members were also appointed. Thereafter, the department was run by permanent staffs and rotating teaching staffs from other medical universities.

From December 2005 to May 2008, the Department was led by Dr. Yee Yee Tin, first as a Lecturer and later as an Associate Professor with responsibilities as Head of the Department. During this period, the Department had two attached lecturers - one from University of Medicine 1, Yangon and other from University of Medicine 2, Yangon as well as thirteen demonstrators.

From 2008 to 2010, the Department was headed by Professor Dr. Thein May Saw, Professor and Head of the Department. The Department comprised sixteen teaching staff members, including one Associate Professors, one Lecturer and fourteen Demonstrators.

From 2010 to 14^th March 2013, the Department continued to be headed by Professor Dr. Thein May Saw, with nineteen teaching staffs, including one Associate Professor, three Lecturers, three Assistant Lecturers and eleven Demonstrators.

In 4^th April 2013 Professor Dr. Yee Yee Tin assumed responsibility as Professor and Head of the Department. At that time, the department was staffed by one Associate Professor, three Lecturers, two Assistant Lecturers and six Demonstrators as well as 4 non-teaching staffs.

From January 2018 to November 2018, the Department was headed by Professor Dr. Shin Hnaung Lwin. The staff consisted of one Lecturer, Dr. Yee Yee Htun, four Assistant Lecturers and eight Demonstrators and four non-teaching staffs. 

From November 2018 to June 2022, the Department was led by Prof Dr. Myat Myat Soe as Professor and Head of the department. During this period, the department comprised one Associate Professor, three Lecturers, three Assistant Lecturers and six Demonstrators, and four non-teaching staffs. 

From June 2022 to February 2025, the Department was headed by Professor Dr. K Khine Thu as Professor and Head of the Department. At that time, the Department consisted of two Lecturers, two Assistant Lecturers, and two non-teaching staffs. 

From February 2025 up to, the Department was led by Professor Dr. Mya Thuzar. At present, the Department is staffed by three lecturers, and three non-teaching staff.
