I.        HISTORY OF  DEPARTMENT

When the University of Medicine, Magway came to exist, the Department of Myanmar was set up in 2001, with the lecturer and Head of the Department, Daw Aye Aye Maw, Lecturer Daw Swe Swe Hnin and newly appointed tutors. Daw Thet Thet Win was the second in line of the heads appointed.

In 2004, the Department was headed by Daw Swe Swe Hnin supported by nine tutors to implement the Myanmar course for 1^st MBBS with other commitments of family Medicine and TPPD. For the time being, integrated curriculum is being taught by the faculty members of Myanmar Department, Daw Swe Swe Hnin (Head of the Department), three lecturer and ten assistant lecturer.

Since, 2022, Daw Thida Oo has served as the lecturer and head of the department and she has continued to perform her responsibilities up to the present with the support of three lecturers.

The department is one of the Premedical Departments of UMMG and is responsible for teaching Myanmar language-related courses to medical students.
