HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT

              Department of Biochemistry was established in 2002 at University of Medicine, Magway. Professor May Thazinwas the very first professor who took the responsibility as the head of the Department from April 2002 to November 2005. She was transferred to University of Medicine 2, Yangon on November 2005. Professor Dr. Khin Mar Aye  became the head of the Department and took the responsibility of the department from November 2005 to March2011. After the retirement of Professor Dr. Khin Mar Aye,Professor Dr. KyuKyuMaungtook the responsibility as the head of the Department from March 2011 to June 2012. As she was transferred to the University of Medicine 2, Yangon in June 2016, the responsibility of the department was taken by Professor Dr. Khin Win Sein in June 2016. After about 4 years, in February 2016, she was transferred to University of Medicine, Mandalay andProfessor Dr. Myat Mon Khine became the fifth head of the department in February 2016. Currently, the department is being ran under the guidance of Professor Dr. Myat Mon Khine.

                The department is responsible for teaching and training of second year MBBS students. Training and teaching of first year MBBS students for 2 months was included in departmental duties between 2003 and 2010. The second MBBS curriculum has dramatically changed as the teaching period of second year changes from one year course to 14 months course which started from November 2011.

             Regarding the post-graduate course, the M.Med.Sc. (Biochemistry) course was started in 2009-2010 academic years. The department have successfully given the degree of M.Med.Sc.(Biochemistry) to three students within 7 years. Currently, two students are attending the M.Med.Sc. course.

              The PhD (Biochemistry) course was started in January 2017. One student is now attending the PhD course.
